Seamless integration and simplified reporting let you track measurable environmental insights.
At our annual Epicor Insights conference in Las Vegas, I was excited to share with our audience of over 4,000 customers and partners about the new, patented Epicor Carbon Cost Rollup solution. This transformative technology approaches sustainability as a natural extension of manufacturers’ existing operational practices.
Throughout my career, in forums like Insights, through the podcast I host, Manufacturing the Future, and conversations in the field, I've listened to manufacturing leaders express their frustration with carbon tracking. Although they understand the importance of environmental accountability, they view the process as complex, time-consuming, and often disconnected from their day-to-day operations.
The issue isn't a lack of commitment to sustainability. Rather, it's that traditional approaches to carbon tracking often don't align with how manufacturers actually operate. They require separate systems, specialized knowledge, and resources that many companies simply don't possess.
Through conversations with our Customer Advisory Board members, we discovered a critical need for a simplified approach to environmental reporting that works within manufacturers' existing processes, not against them.
What makes our Carbon Cost Rollup solution most impactful for the industry is its approach – treating CO2 emissions as a currency within your manufacturing process.
If this sounds familiar, it's because we've adapted the established "Cost Rollup" method from standard costing systems that manufacturers already use. This transforms what was once an abstract concept into something tangible and measurable throughout your production process.
Here's how it works: We begin at the most fundamental level of the bill of materials and operations, calculating the carbon cost for each component. As we move up through each tier, the cumulative carbon expenditure for the final product becomes clear. This provides a complete picture of your product's carbon footprint with the same precision you expect from financial reporting.
This solution doesn't exist in isolation. It builds upon our collaboration with carbon intelligence platform Climatiq, which we announced last year. The integration of Climatiq's carbon footprint calculation API across the Epicor portfolio provides the essential data that powers our Carbon Cost Rollup solution.
What makes this approach powerful is that it integrates seamlessly with your existing cost accounting software, minimizing the learning curve for your workforce. Your team already understands cost rollups; now they're simply applying that same logic to carbon emissions.
Paul Silva Da Cruz, CFO at DMN-WESTINGHOUSE, one of the world’s leading rotary and diverter value suppliers based in The Netherlands, explains how this solution has transformed the company’s approach: “Epicor’s Carbon Cost Rollup transforms the abstract concept of carbon emissions into a tangible metric that we can easily measure and optimize to work more efficiently. We are excited to use these new solutions to streamline our processes as we actively track and report on our footprint.”
The manufacturing industry faces increasing pressure to address the environmental impact of their processes, as evidenced by growing regulatory requirements and rising customer demand for sustainable products. But sustainability initiatives shouldn't come at the expense of profitability or operational efficiency.
What I'm most proud of is that our team has created a solution that empowers organizations to mitigate climate change by prioritizing areas for emissions reduction while addressing their carbon footprint with the same precision and rigor as their financial costs.
This marks a significant step forward in sustainable manufacturing and one that acknowledges the realities of running a manufacturing business while providing practical tools to make meaningful environmental improvements.
